Your Towing Vehicle
All our trailed chain harrows and mounted chain harrows are made in the UK and have 13mm heavy duty tines, if you are unsure whether your vehicle has enough towing power please contact us and we will be happy to advise the correct drawbar and chain harrow mat or mats for you.
Which Chain Harrow Width?
We always recommend you choose a chain harrow at least the width of the vehicle you are towing with. If you change your vehicle in the future or increase the amount of grass you need to harrow, you could choose a Semi-Professional chain harrow with a 4ft depth mat to start with then you have the option to upgrade to a Professional double depth chain harrow at a later date by simply adding an extra mat.
Trailed chain harrows can be towed behind any vehicle with a pin or ball hitch.
Mounted chain harrows can only be used in conjunction with tractors with hydraulic 3 point linkage.
The main advantage of mounted chain harrows is the ability to lift the harrow for road transportation. With larger frames harrowing land is faster and the folding sides allow access through narrow gateways etc. The hydraulic lift also allows complete ground coverage reversing into corners.
Mounted chain harrows
As a guide we would recommend the following:
Ride-on mowers - 4ft wide Semi-Professional 4ft depth chain harrows
Quad Bikes 250cc upwards - 4-6ft wide Semi Professional 4ft depth chain harrows, larger quad bikes could possible tow a Professional 8ft double depth chain harrow
Compact Tractors (www.mitsubishicompacttractors.co.uk) and larger - 4ft wide Semi-Professional 4ft depth chain harrows
4x4 vehicles e.g. Landrover - 6ft, 8ft and 10ft wide Semi-Professional 4ft depth or Professional 8ft double depth chain harrows
